Undreaming Wetiko: Breaking the Spell of the Nightmare Mind-Virus

PREFACE: Unmasking Ourselves

INTRODUCTION: A Thumbnail Sketch of Wetiko

PART I: SPELLS, CURSES AND SHAMANS

In this first part we investigate how the wetiko mind-virus works through our relationships, be they with others, with our ancestors, or our inner relationship with ourself. We explore how the process of becoming triggered, wounded, and falling into suffering can help us more clearly understand the workings of wetiko in a way that transforms our struggles into opportunities for healing and awakening.

Our inquiry illuminates a major source of wetiko—unhealed multigenerational ancestral abuse and trauma as it gets acted out and propagated through human family lineages. We then contemplate how, to the extent we are unconscious of our true nature, we have unknowingly turned on our authentic self and are colluding with the very evil by which we feel victimized.

This section concludes by highlighting one of the primary archetypes currently activated in the collective unconscious of humanity, that of the wounded healer or shaman, pointing out that we are all wounded healers or shamans-in-training. Recognizing this deeper universal pattern informing our individual lives can help us recontextualize our current situation as we navigate our collective descent as a species into the underworld of the unconscious, a true bardo realm between our past and future worlds.

PART II: ANGELS, DEMONS, AND REBIRTH

As humanity deepens in its process of awakening, there is no getting around a showdown with the forces of darkness. To help us in this encounter, in this section we are introduced to the inner guide, the daemon/angel, an archetypal form that lives within us as a necessary ally in our coming to terms with the equally daemonic energy of wetiko. Analogous to how a symbol in a dream is created by our activated unconscious in order to transform the psyche, the creative tension emerging from our inner neurotic split can be likened to being pregnant, in that the psyche wants to birth something new.

We explore the nature of symbols—symbols being the language of dreams—and the importance of cultivating symbolic awareness,” which is to interpret events in our lives symbolically, just as we would a dream. We reflect on the idea that by viewing Christ, who symbolically speaking, represents the Higher Self, and the events that transpired through him symbolically (a way of seeing that Christ himself, as revealed in the apocryphal texts, was trying to get across to his disciples), we can transmute the poison that is wetiko into the medicine we need today.

We then explore the crucial role that connecting with our creativity plays in a deeper cosmic dreaming process to potentially bring about the redemption, liberation, and incarnation of the Higher Self. This section concludes with reflections on a work of genius, a short but highly controversial essay by Jung about how we can connect with the light when we find ourselves in a time of darkness. Jung was pointing at wetiko.

PART III: THE QUANTUM SYNCHRONISTIC FIELD

This section elucidates the quantum nature of wetiko, showing how understanding wetiko’s entangled wave/particle quantum nature helps us to come to grips with the trickster-like nature of this mind-virus, as well as shedding light on the quantum nature of both the world and ourselves. Being quantum in nature, wetiko contains encoded within it both the deepest poison and its own vaccine, and how it actually manifests depends in a very real sense on how we dream it.

We inquire into how the revelations emerging from quantum physics—provided we have the eyes to see—provide the medicine for healing wetiko. Because synchronicity is the internal corollary in human experience of the seemingly external quantum idea, this section concludes by doing a deep dive into the nature of synchronicity. Because wetiko can only be seen when we recognize that, just like a dream, the inner and outer worlds synchronistically reflect each other, our shedding light on the workings of synchronicity can help us illuminate and dispel the mind-virus that plagues our world.

PART IV: THE SELF AS REVELATION

Being that wetiko is a form of psychic blindness, this section starts off by contemplating the nature of our blindness and how we can begin to see it. Seeing the underlying unconscious dynamics that fuel our blindness helps us realize how we can help open other people’s eyes as well. We then explore the nature of wetiko as a disguised form of revelation. The source of the greatest evil imaginable, wetiko contains encoded within it a hidden revelation that when brought to light, becomes its own medicine.

Wetiko is a particularly unique form of revelation, however, in that it needs our conscious recognition of what it is revealing to us in order to effect its transformation and bring forth its positive healing aspect. This section concludes by contemplating the reflective, mirrorlike nature of the Self. It points out that the best medicine for the wetiko mind-virus is to connect with the presence and light of our true nature, by becoming who we truly are.
