UNLIVED LIVES

A little while ago, someone forwarded me an interesting email response to an article I had written about the collective madness which has befallen our species (The article, called The Madness of George W. Bush: A Reflection of our Collective Psychosis, is the first chapter in my book of the same name). The response was from well-known author Alice Miller, author of the classic book The Drama of the Gifted Child. I was most happy that such an esteemed psychiatrist would take the time to read my work.… Read more

A FAMILY CURSE

A number of years ago, a father brought to me his adult son who had suffered, due to an overwhelming psychological trauma a few years before, a psychotic break. As I worked with the son, I noticed that there were two distinct parts of him. On the one hand, due to his inability to metabolize the trauma, he had dissociated and developed a fantasy-based identity which had little relation to what we would call day-to-day reality. As I got to know the son, however, I realized that another part of him was perfectly reasonable, very awake, aware and healthy.… Read more

HOMELAND INSECURITY

If terrorists themselves had infiltrated our government and taken control of our country, they could not have done worse damage to our once great nation than George Bush and his regime have accomplished. Bush is just the latest incarnation – in amplified form – of self-serving, darker forces that have progressively insinuated themselves into our government over many administrations. Like his predecessors, Bush is a finger-puppet of the underlying financial-military-industrial crime syndicate that has animated and controlled our government for many years.… Read more

TRIGGERED BY EVIL

Due to the horrific events playing out on the world stage, I find myself unable to avoid the subject of “evil.” Some of my readers have objected to my use of the term “evil,” because it “triggers” something in them which makes them feel uncomfortable, and sometimes even makes them stop reading. Their reaction has made me wonder whether I should use a different word so as not to trigger them, or is activating people the whole point of my writing?… Read more

MEETING THE OTHER WITHIN

As I point out in my recent book, “The Madness of George W. Bush: A Reflection of our Collective Psychosis,” withdrawing our shadow projections, the darker part of ourselves that we see reflected in “others,” initiates the process of being able to more effectively deal with the darkness in our world. The question arises: what does owning our shadow and withdrawing our shadow projections look like? When we recognize, own and withdraw our shadow projections from the outside world that we have cast onto “others,” we get in touch with the “other” inside of ourselves.… Read more

ILLUMINATED BY DARKNESS

(Note: For those of you have read my book, the first few parts of this article might be somewhat familiar, but I urge you to not let this stop you from getting to the meat of the article, as I genuinely try to illumine some new territory. I’ve included these first few parts for those unfamiliar with my work, as it serves as a framework for the main discussion that follows later in the article).

In my recent book “The Madness of George W.… Read more

SHADOW PROJECTION IS ITS OWN MEDICINE

The crisis in the Middle East between Israel and its enemies is a microcosm of the greater underlying conflict that is wreaking havoc on our planet. Just like any one part of a hologram contains the whole hologram, what is happening in the Middle East is a reflection of what is playing out both on the entire planet, as well as within ourselves. What is playing out in the Middle East is actually reflecting back to us, in full-bodied amplified form, a dynamic going on deep within the collective psyche of humanity.… Read more

SHADOW PROJECTION: THE FUEL OF WAR

Speaking about World War I, Jung could just as well been commenting on our current war when he said, “The psychological concomitants of the present war- above all the incredible brutalization of public opinion, the mutual slanderings, the unprecedented fury of destruction, the monstrous flood of lies, and man’s incapacity to call a halt to the bloody demon- are uniquely fitted to force upon the attention of every thinking person the problem of the chaotic unconscious which slumbers uneasily beneath the ordered world of consciousness.… Read more

SHEDDING LIGHT ON EVIL

It is a fact that cannot be denied: the wickedness of others becomes our own wickedness because it kindles something evil in our own hearts[i]
~C. G. Jung

Whether we see evil in the terrorists or in George W. Bush, I simply cannot imagine anyone would dispute that the face of evil has emerged in our world. There is something about looking at evil, however, that is very different than when we passively witness something we remain unaffected by. No one can see evil and stay untouched.… Read more
